"Theatre for All" is an educational approach that can be conducted in various formats,
ranging from a 1.5-hour lecture or seminar to a 3-hour workshop or a 2-day masterclass.
The approach consists of two parts: both of which combine theory and practice.
The first part, "Theatre", focuses on "the seed", "analysis", and "expression tools" - three general elements that create a piece of performative art. Drawing on works and research in developmental psychology, the workshop demonstrates that the "seed" (an emotional seed or a point of hurt) and "analysis" (events, conflict, internal action, suggested circumstances) are naturally accessible to everyone. The only element that requires adaptation is "expression tools."
"For All" is the second part, which requires additional knowledge and skills.
For each performance, a tailored approach is needed to make the space safe for everybody and the artistic game understandable and accessible. Therefore, this methodology provides a structured framework for where and how to find these skills and knowledge for each specific project.
The concept behind this approach is the result of research conducted by the author between 2022 and 2025. It combines developmental psychology with theatrical and educational practices from previous years of work. The primary goal of the research was to systematize a director's experience in creating performances for children so that it could be generalized, shared, and applied as educational knowledge and skills. This research resulted in a concept applicable not only to children’s theatre, but also to any theatre striving to be accessible to all. It provides an opportunity for any audience member or participant to join the event, regardless of their gender, age, nationality, neurodivergence, or physical, hearing, and visual disabilities.
The research for the workshop is mainly based on the works of K. Stanislavsky, S. Freud, M. Montessori, J. Huizinga, and L. Vygotsky.
